A New Era for Aerosol Products from Geostationary Satellites for Air Quality Operational and Research Applications II Posters

Session Description:
The Advanced Himawari Imager (AHI) on the Himawari-8 and Himawari-9 satellites and the Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) on the GOES-16 and GOES-17 satellites provide revolutionary new high accuracy and high spatial resolution aerosol products that were previously only available from polar-orbiting satellites, but with the high temporal resolution of geostationary satellites. For this session, we invite presentations that discuss (1) how the 5-minute refresh rates of AHI and ABI measurements are being exploited to improve aerosol product accuracy, (2) how high accuracy AHI and ABI aerosol data are improving current operational activities, (3) planned applications of AHI and ABI aerosol data in research and operations, particularly for analysis of smoke and dust in the atmosphere, (4) synergy of AHI and ABI data with aerosol measurements from VIIRS, MODIS, and other satellites, and (5) assimilation of AHI and ABI aerosol data in global and regional models to improve aerosol predictions.
