PP23G:
Fifty Years of Sea Levels, Chronology, and Climate Change from Coral Reefs Posters

Submit an Abstract to this Session

Session ID#: 50755

Session Description:
Flights of coral-reef terraces from tectonically active and stable platforms have long served as yardsticks of sea-level changes during the Late Quaternary, and offered early support of the Milankovitch astronomical theory of ice ages. Recent improvements in radiometric dating and stable isotope techniques are producing highly resolved and chronologically well constrained Mid-to-Late Quaternary records of abrupt sea-level shifts, and climate changes from corals, giant clams, calcareous sponges, etc on time scales ranging from millennia to interannual. A number of important issues remain controversial, such as the nature of sub-Milakovitch periodicities of climate swings, the timing and structure of the last Interglacial, changing frequency and intensity of ENSO, etc. The session aims to bring together researchers of coral reefs to present their recent findings from field and laboratory data, to models.
