Chasing Carbon Cycle Perturbations Through the Cenozoic Posters

Session Description:
Variations of the carbon cycle are intimately linked with the evolution of climate over Earth History. The similarities (magnitude, frequency, and duration) in the expression of these carbon cycle perturbations, often associated with carbon isotope excursions (CIEs), on tectonic and orbital timescales, suggests a unifying framework governing the forcing and response. However, comparative studies investigating this under greenhouse and/or icehouse conditions invoke different climate sensitivities to global carbon reservoirs and/or feedbacks. We are interested in exploring the links between climate and biogeochemistry, productivity, ocean circulation, sea-level, the hydrological cycle and beyond. In this session, we invite contributions that utilize both paleoproxy and modelling approaches to investigate how CIEs throughout the Cenozoic, such as but not limited to Paleogene hyperthermals, Oligocene-Miocene, Monterey event, cascade through the climate system.
