P23E:
Fifty Years of Apollo Science: A Legacy of Lunar Science from Orbit, the Surface, and Long-Lived Surface Experiments II Posters
Submit an Abstract to this Session
Session ID#: 51113
Session Description:
Fifty years since the Apollo missions to the Moon, the orbital observations and measurements, samples, surface measurements, and field observations are being revisited in the context of a variety of newly acquired data. With the new context provided by orbital and sample data, long-held assumptions of the Moon’s surface and environment are being revisited.
This session is open to an array of topics, including insights from modern analyses of Apollo samples, knowledge from modern analyses of ALSEP data, results of contemporary models of lunar formation and evolution, impact cratering, volcanism, history of paleo-magnetic fields, isotopic dating results and issues, the broad implications of regolith formation, space weathering, lunar tectonism, avalanche origins and dynamics, and new interpretations of Apollo landing sites based on recent remote sensing analysis. We will highlight the continued importance of Apollo data in our ongoing study of the Moon as well as all Solar System bodies.
