Short-Lived Pollutants in the Human–Climate System Posters

Session Description:
Human activity generates two broad classes of emissions – long-lived greenhouse gases (LLGHGs) like carbon dioxide, and short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) like surface ozone, aerosol particulate matter, and their precursors – that impact human health through changes in both climate and air quality. Since SLCPs and LLGHGs are co-emitted, full understanding of health impacts requires that both their interactions with the general circulation and their human consequences be considered together. Moreover, understanding global health will require new analysis across many regions, since existing estimates in developing countries are commonly extrapolated from studies in wealthy countries – an assumption that may not be valid. Within this context, this session will prioritize analyses that: (a) jointly address regional climate and pollution dynamics and distributions; (b) include new empirical estimates of impacts on any dimension of human health; and (c) emphasize global impacts and/or impacts in developing countries.
