V14B:
Lithium Resources in Continental Brines, Pegmatites, and Lacustrine Sediments I eLightning

Session ID#: 51511
Session Description:
The world is experiencing a lithium exploration boom fueled by the manufacture of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles and renewable energy storage. Over the next 10-15 years, industry analytical groups have estimated lithium demand to increase anywhere from four to five times today's global production. To meet these projections, exploration is focused on continental brines, the current source of most lithium for the battery market; pegmatites, the historical source of lithium; and lacustrine sediments, a newly recognized lithium resource. A better understanding of the characteristics and origins of these deposits will enable and inform current and future exploration activities and assessments for undiscovered resources. We invite submissions that describe the geochemistry and geology of lithium deposits, as well as all aspects of the lithium geochemical cycle that lead to its enrichment in continental brines, pegmatites, lacustrine sediments, or other potential geologic environments.
