Paleoclimatic History of El Niño–Southern Oscillation Posters

Session Description:
El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is the leading mode of interannual variability in the modern climate system, but its current and future responses to anthropogenic forcings remain uncertain. Paleoclimate observations provide insights into ENSO'€™s behavior under different climatic states, and its response to both forced and internal variability in the climate system (e.g., changes in Earth's orbital configuration, greenhouse gas concentrations, global ice volume, explosive volcanism, solar activity, and Pacific Decadal Variability). We invite contributions that use paleoclimate reconstructions, methodological advances, data syntheses, and/or output from numerical models to advance our knowledge of ENSO and its related phenomena (e.g., marine heat waves, hydroclimate teleconnections, Pacific Decadal Variability, and the tropical Pacific mean state). We welcome studies of any past timescale, including the incorporation of proxy data into projections of future ENSO.
