Session Description:
There is a growing demand for weather and climate information and services, especially in resource constrained environments. However, communication skills and strategies are critical factors that determine the effectiveness of conveying this information to decision-makers. These audiences often have limited access to information, and may lack the training to understand the complexities inherent in uncertain, probabilistic climate information. Conversely, these are often the decision-makers most in need of accurate information on climate risks and opportunities. This session seeks to explore topics such as:

  • How can scientists best convey uncertain weather and climate information in meaningful and actionable ways to decision-makers in resource constrained environments?  
  • What are the constraints to that communication, and do they vary across sectors, geographies, and cultures?  
  • Are there ways of communicating climate risk that are particularly effective?  
  • How do we effectively convey uncertainty and probability without loss of clarity?
  • How should local knowledge be addressed/included?
