Session ID#: 51930
Session Description:
The session examines the ongoing development of modeling, research, and monitoring findings of climate change influences on the Chesapeake watershed, airshed, and estuary. Included in the assessment are expected changes in future (2050) land use, water resource demands because of increasing temperature and populations, changes in atmospheric deposition of nitrogen, changes in hypoxia because of sea level rise and temperature increases, loss of tidal wetlands and associated nutrient attenuation due to sea level rise, changes in storm intensity, and changes in estimated watershed nutrient and sediment loads. The estimated influence of all of the above elements on Chesapeake hypoxia will be quantified separately and together. The comparison of climate change effects in other coastal and estuarine systems is a key feature of this session and a survey of the synthesis of research and modeling in the assessment of climate change in other coastal and estuarine systems will be examined.
