The Legacy and Future of the Washington, D. C., Region as a Collaborative Center for Geoscience Research

Session Description:
The 2018 AGU Fall Meeting will kick off the 100th anniversary of the founding of the American Geophysical Union.  This year we gather in Washington, D.C., AGU's home base and also home to other organizations that foster geophysical research, education, and opportunities to share scientific ideas (e.g. the Smithsonian Institution, USGS, Carnegie Institution of Washington, NASA, NIST, NSF, NRC, IRIS, and local colleges and universities). 

Thus, the D.C. region has been a collaborative center for Geoscience research, results of which were often shared at Geological Society of Washington meetings.  We invite contributions that discuss these important contributions, give examples of collaborative solutions to scientific and environmental problems, and examine opportunities for integrating Geoscience research into public policy questions.
