Science to Action: Best Practices and Lessons Learned from Interdisciplinary Research II Posters

Session Description:
Interdisciplinary research (or integration across fields) is necessary to both understand human and natural systems feedback and translate basic science into decision-making. Emergence of community science, translational research, and socio-hydrology all indicate the growing interest of geophysical scientists in this arena. These interdisciplinary approaches are motivated by numerous goals including sustainability, resilience, and adaptive mitigation. Our speakers will share insights into effective interdisciplinary research that sheds light into a broad range of applications, including wild rice management, disease analysis, nutrient pollution, forest thinning, and irrigation water development. We will also hear about general best practices and opportunities for improvement from experts with backgrounds in education (e.g., IGERT and EMBeRS), government (e.g., NASA and NSF), and interdisciplinary academic organizations (e.g., SESYNC and AGU). Audience participation is encouraged through group discussion and individual interaction with speakers during the eLightning session.
