Session Description:
There are 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), nine of which relate to water, including improved access to water and sanitation, eradicating poverty, reducing hunger, enabling healthy ecosystems, providing clean energy, regulating climate, and sustainable consumption. Achievement of the SDGs is set for 2030, less than 12 years away, yet many key water-related interactions across sectors and scientific disciplines are poorly understood, especially in the context of rapid global environmental change. For example, what are the trade-offs and co-benefits of rainwater harvesting for health, household economics, and ecosystems? Is deforestation linked to hydrological extremes, crop failure, and poverty? Is virtual water trade sustaining or eroding landscape resilience?
We welcome contributions that discuss multifaceted human and environmental aspects of SDG-achievement from a transdisciplinary water perspective. Contributions may focus on any part of the world, and we particularly invite studies focusing on sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, Oceania and Island nations, and Central Asia.
