Session Description:
Science is challenged as a source of relevant information for understanding the world and how we interact with it and how it impacts us. To have an impact on interested public, scientists need to understand and respond to an evolving social media landscape. How do scientists break through the ever increasing volume of social media, including Instagram feeds, Buzz Feed quizzes, and Facebook polls to share relevant discoveries and breakthroughs? How can knowledge and authoritative data be reinserted into policy discussions and management decisions addressing natural resources? This session will be used to share various strategies, techniques, tools, applications, and platforms that scientists can use to communicate science with an audience and engage a public immersed in social media. This session will be accompanied by an e-Lightning session to facilitate discussion and feedback on current research applying to knowledge acquisition and communication, geospatial data visualizations, videos, and animations in real-time.
