A31M:
Emissions of Atmospheric Pollutants from Oil, Gas, and Coal Operations II Posters
Submit an Abstract to this Session
Session ID#: 53910
Session Description:
Fossil fuel combustion has a known impact on climate and air quality. Recent measurements have uncovered that supply chain activities (e.g., production, processing, storage, transportation, and distribution) may also play a large role in the life cycle climate and air quality effects of these fossil fuels. As a result, several jurisdictions have announced pledges and regulations at national and sub-national levels with the goal of reducing emissions of criteria air pollutants, toxics, and greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. However, these emissions and their subsequent impacts on air quality are often poorly understood. Recent field campaigns, new remote sensing observations, and robust emissions inventory efforts continue to transform scientific understanding of upstream activities, but the variability across estimates remains unresolved. We call for submissions that reconcile bottom-up and top-down emissions estimates, quantify air quality effects, and/or explore the life cycle climate impacts of supply chain emissions from these fossil fuel activities.
