Volatile Budgets and Cycling Through Planetary Evolution Posters

Session Description:
Constraining the volatile budget of a planet is fundamental to understanding the processes of planetary formation and evolution and ultimately the origin of life. Volatile abundances on a planetary scale are determined by a variety of processes during accretion, including condensation, metal-silicate-sulfide segregation, evaporation, and giant impacts. After planetary formation, volatiles exchange between surface and deep reservoirs through volcanism, plate tectonics and mantle convection and this volatile cycle has contributed to planetary habitability. A better understanding of volatile behavior during these processes requires an interdisciplinary approach. In this session we welcome submissions from diverse fields including isotope geochemistry and chronology, experimental petrology and electrical conductivity studies, numerical and thermodynamic modeling, and first principle simulationsto better understand planetary volatile budgets, how volatile abundances have evolved over time, and the role of volatile cycling within the deep Earth.
