Reconstructing the Paleomagnetic Field: From Data to Models II Posters

Session Description:
Understanding variations in the paleomagnetic field, both on short and long-term time scales places constraints on our understanding of the geodynamo and deep Earth processes. Dedicated efforts to increase global data coverage and improve data quality have advanced our understanding of paleomagnetic field behavior during, e.g., the Archaen, the Cretaceous Normal Superchron, and the Holocene, as well as revealing the complexity of reversals and excursions. For geologically recent times, the development of data-based temporally continuous inverse models of the global geomagnetic field has allowed global structures of the field to be mapped at Earth’s surface and core-mantle boundary. With increasing data, the construction of global field models for other geomagnetically interesting times is feasible. We solicit abstracts presenting new data and models investigating the evolution of the paleomagnetic field from the Archean through to the present, with a particular focus on time periods and geographic areas with scarce paleomagnetic records.
