Multivariate Modeling in Hydrology, Climatology, and Geosciences: Copulas, Multihazard Analysis, and Probabilistic Prediction

Session Description:
Many hydroclimatological variables are interdependent and often multi-variate methods are required to understand their interactions and dependence structure. Examples are numerous, including drought severity and duration, flood peak and intensity, droughts and heatwaves, and ocean and terrestrial flooding. Copulas, as a vehicle for multivariate analysis, are widely used in hydrology, climatology, and other areas in geosciences. In this workshop, we discuss the copula theory and provide hands-on practice using climate data records. We will introduce and employ Multivariate Copula Analysis Toolbox (MvCAT), Multi-hazard Analysis and Scenario Toolbox (MhAST), and Copula Prediction toolbox (CoPred) to solve a wide range of real-world multivariate problems. This workshop serves all disciplines.
