WS27:
Predicting Physical Properties of Rocks and Their Anisotropy Using Mineral Composition and Microstructural Data

Submit an Abstract to this Session

Session ID#: 54731

Session Description:
In the proposed workshop we will cover different aspects and topics related to prediction of elastic/seismic and magnetic properties, including:

  1. An introduction to single crystal elastic and magnetic properties, which together with information on microstructure and mineral composition serves as the fundamental basis for predicting physical properties of rocks.
  2. Textural and microstructural framework as the input for predicting physical properties and anisotropy. Focus will be on use of scanning electron microscopy – electron backscatter data (SEM-EBSD), for use in physical properties prediction.
  3. Scaling microstructure-based physical properties results to macroscale, for interpretation of gephysical seismic and magnetic anomaly data.
