Innovative Data-Driven Platforms and VREs for Complex Earth, Space, and Environmental Sciences Applications Posters

Session Description:
Achieving research progress in Earth and Space sciences depends on managing huge volumes of data for pre-processing, modeling, analysis and visualization: such requirements routinely stretch systems, service providers and users to their limits. Research platforms need to provide users with innovative services, front-ends and targeted products, that transparently reach across infrastructure and data boundaries. This transition requires moving data processing and analysis away from the user and closer to the data. Virtual Research Environments (VREs) (aka Virtual Laboratories and Science Gateways) support such online collaborative research and can range from small groups of investigators to large international initiatives: they can simply be sharing data or facilitating complex processing workflows on HPC. This session focusses on innovative approaches to managing huge data volumes and complex infrastructure interactions including architectures, workflow systems, provenance, front-ends and services designed to enable large-scale data-driven research products; methods of sharing developments; recognized challenges; and future visions.
