A43N:
Constraining Biosphere–Atmosphere Exchange Processes Using Remote Sensing and in Situ Observations II Posters

Submit an Abstract to this Session

Session ID#: 56789

Session Description:
Understanding the relationship between atmospheric greenhouse gas (GHG) measurements and surface carbon, energy, and water fluxes, is fundamental to predicting their future evolution in a changing climate. This session focuses on modeling frameworks (top-down and bottom-up) that investigate biosphere-atmosphere exchange processes using data from various observational platforms, for example, in situ, localized surface networks and aircraft campaigns (e.g. ACT- America, AToM, ORCAS) and remote-sensing missions (such as OCO-2, GOSAT, SMAP). We invite contributions on: 1) estimation and/or verification of GHG budgets from various approaches and methods to reconcile them; 2) inverse modeling and data assimilation systems for obtaining GHG budgets; 3) examination of atmospheric transport, or observational and model errors on estimated GHG budgets; 4) strategies for coupling atmospheric inversions to biogeochemical models; and 5) innovative approaches using multi-spectral and hyperspectral (e.g., SIF) remote sensing or tracers (e.g. carbonyl sulfide and isotopes) to provide insight into process-based model formulations.
