Further Research into the Cause and Impacts of the 2017 Hurricanes, with Applications of Flood Warning and Inundation Mapping During the Storms Posters

Session Description:
The devastation of many hurricanes taking place in 2017 will be remembered by many people for a long time. This session seeks a wide breadth of contributions focusing on the events of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, including crowd-sourced data and social media in disaster response; policy implications; high resolution remote sensing; flood inundation using 1-D and 2-D modeling approaches with improved understanding of current modeling processes and their extremes (especially those with high-impacts on society); impacts on the environment and human health; changing coastal landscapes; oceanographic, atmospheric, and climatic factors contributing to the storm; data access and assimilation; HPC and cloud computing for real-time analysis. Studies involving flood mitigation and flood policies from the local- to regional-scale are invited given the increasing need for protection from such events. This session encourages contributions from academic, governmental and/or private sectors that have built and deployed flood warning systems with strong communication features.
