Session Description:
Geoscientists have a key role in understanding and communicating the critical elements of affordable, available, reliable, and sustainable energy for modern society. Geoscientists from diverse backgrounds will present their research and perspectives on resources, technology, environmental impact, ethics, and policies for energy solutions.

  • Earth Resources – rare earth elements for alternative and emerging energy technologies; energy minerals; geothermal systems; conventional and unconventional petroleum.
  • Technology – surface and subsurface imaging; maximizing recovery of mineral resource/reserves; carbon capture including CO2 injection; carbon conversion.
  • Environmental Impact– surface footprint and ecosystems, fugitive gas emissions, surface and subsurface water management.
  • Ethics – professional and societal responsibilities associated with accessibility, extraction, production, and consumption of energy resources.
  • Energy Policy – energy poverty and access to energy; implicit and unconscious bias in energy solutions; cooperative energy development.
