Using Earth Observations and Imagery Analysis for Risk and Resilience Assessment, Risk Communication, and Monitor Response and Recovery Efforts Posters

Session Description:
Due to rise in extreme events and their devastating impacts on social and physical systems, building resilience and communicating information about potential risks of these events have become increasingly important. The availability of large volume of high spatial and temporal resolution imagery has enabled using remote sensing and geospatial technologies along with other data sets and models, such as socioeconomic data and physical models to answer critical questions and inform decision about the four components of a disaster’s life cycle – risk, resilience, response and recovery. This session highlights using remote sensing, imagery analytics, geospatial visualization technologies, communication platforms and methodologies, and earth observations to (i) understand physical processes of natural hazards and disasters that occur at the interface between hazards and human activities, (ii) assess risk and resilience using imagery for emergency management, (iii) visualize and map societal impacts of disasters, and (iv) communicate information about extreme events to
