Atmospheric Trace Species Profiles from Long-Term and Campaign Sampling: Observations from Ground, Balloons, and Aircraft II

Session Description:
Profiles of trace constituents throughout troposphere and stratosphere, measured from aircraft, balloons and ground-based remote sensing, are essential to understanding processes affecting changing composition in the atmosphere. They are also vital for evaluation of satellite instruments and models used to track global changes in climate-related species. Profile sampling strategies include intense measurements, typically multi-constituent and multi-platform, on field campaigns. Profiles also originate from instruments on commercial aviation and from long-term networks employing balloons, ground-based spectrometers and lidars. Because both short-term and long-term measurements are used in studies of changing composition and trends, quality assurance of profiles is maintained through archive reprocessing, comparisons of data collected by different methods, regular calibration and dedicated laboratory and field intercomparison campaigns. Oral and poster presentations on all these aspects of profile measurements are solicited. Contributions based on observations and trends from long-term programs, instrument comparison studies and recent aircraft campaigns are welcome.
