Urban and Regional Air Quality: Emissions, Land Surface Forcing, and Meteorological Impacts III

Session Description:
The populations in megacities and large urban complexes are particularly vulnerable to poor air quality and weather extremes under the changing climate. Enhanced environmental services for cities and their surrounding areas require improved understanding of factors (e.g., diverse emission sources, land surface forcing and meteorological conditions) that shape the air quality of these regions. We welcome submissions of abstracts on studying the controlling factors on urban and regional air quality. Novel utilization of various observations (from field campaigns, satellites and ground-based networks), modeling and data assimilation applications are of particular interest. Recent developments and advancements in observing and modeling techniques to aid the understanding and mitigation of urban air pollution are also highly relevant. Integrated research addressing the interdependencies between meteorology, hydrology, ecology, geography, and atmospheric composition is encouraged.
