GC53B:
Dynamic Coastal Systems: Human–Landscape Interactions Under Changing Environmental Conditions I

Submit an Abstract to this Session

Session ID#: 58956

Session Description:
Coastal systems around the world are especially vulnerable to multiple threats from global environmental changes, including sea level rise and increasing frequencies of natural hazards. Meanwhile, human development such as urbanization and exploration are also impacting the coastal geomorphology and ecology. Therefore, interdisciplinary studies on the changes of the physical environment (e.g. geomorphology, ecology, hydrology, etc.), socioeconomic conditions, as well as their interactions are highly necessary, especially at large spatial and/or temporal scales. The goal of this session is to facilitate a discussion on interactions between geophysical and human systems from interdisciplinary perspectives. This session welcomes presentations using remote sensing, field measurements, numerical modeling, and spatial data mining to answer questions on how the geophysical and human systems respond to a dynamic coastal environment. We are especially excited about abstracts that make a strong effort to incorporate the interactions between these systems into the discussion.
