GC13A:
Advances in Understanding Impacts of Land Use and Land Cover Change Using Earth System Models and Data Records I

Submit an Abstract to this Session

Session ID#: 58976

Session Description:
Earth system models (ESMs) and data records are effective tools to assess the impacts of LULCC in a changing climate such as those caused by transitions between natural and managed land use types, urbanization, and ecosystem dynamics following disturbances. While current ESMs represent a broad range of LULCC processes, interactions and biogeophysical and biogeochemical feedbacks, they are yet to be improved by integrating with observations and data-assimilated Earth system records. We seek contributions on, but not limited to, quantifying the effects of LULCC on water/carbon/nutrient cycling, water-food-energy nexus, ecosystem function, and regional and global climate through developing and applying ESMs or its components at various scales. Studies on developing Earth system records and projections, high-resolution individual process model applications, validation and verification tools, and coupling frameworks that could improve fidelity of ESMs in quantifying LULCC effects, are strongly encouraged.
