Observed and Projected Climate Change Impacts on Water Resources, Agriculture, and Health I

Session Description:
As the world’s population continues to grow, there are increased demands on food and water. Changes in global and regional climate patterns may disrupt local weather, alter the frequency and duration of wet and dry spells, and affect precipitation and temperature variability. These variations may adversely affect food and water security, as well as health and agriculture. This session will focus on observed and projected changes to all aspects of the hydrologic cycle and attendant impacts on agricultural systems, groundwater and water supply, and food security issues and implications. We encourage submissions on: (i) research exploring observed and projected hydrologic changes, (ii) the implications of recent droughts for health, food supplies, food availability, and food security, (iii) research exploring how climate influences food supplies, prices, and stability, and (iv) the implications of increased air temperatures on water resources, health, agriculture, social and economic systems and/or conflict.
