PP22C:
Understanding the Indian–Asian–Australian Monsoon: Evolution and Links to Tectonic, Climatic, and Biogeochemical Cycles I

Session ID#: 59413

Session Description:
As part of the Earth’s most powerful hydrologic regime, the Indian-Asian-Australian Monsoon affects billions of people annually, yet we lack critical knowledge of the controls on the monsoon system. In the last few years, several IODP Expeditions have sailed with a goal of better understanding the development and evolution of the Indian-Asian-Australian Monsoon. We invite contributions from all disciplines that explore the geologic history and dynamics of the monsoon, to include novel approaches and research in progress. Studies addressing the physical and climatological mechanisms underlying changes in monsoonal precipitation, erosion, and run-off are encouraged, as are proxy-based reconstructions of paleomonsoon intensity linking changes in tectonics, climate, and biogeochemical cycles. We welcome contributions across all time scales.
