Temporal and Geographical Phasing of Northern Hemisphere Climate Change I

Session Description:
Although climate changes over large regions of the northern hemisphere are broadly influenced by the circum-hemispheric westerly circulation, significant regional differences also exist relating to topography, land-sea configuration, and seasonality of temperature and precipitation, resulting in regionally distinct expressions to these changes. Similar issues can be found in regions dominated by the Hadley circulation and monsoon climates.  Identifying latitudinal climatic patterns on orbital-to-centennial timescales will permit a better understanding of the interaction between the atmosphere, land, and ocean processes in determining such changes. Here, we invite contributions to discuss the geographical patterns and phasing of NH climate change inferred from paleoclimate proxies and from analysis of model simulations.
