Data for Our Changing Earth: Impacts of Open Access to Quality Geospatial Data from Trusted Sources I

Session Description:
Earth science data is collected globally by large numbers of organizations and from multiple sectors and many of these data are available online. Open, accessible, high-quality data, as well as related data products and software, are critical to  Earth and space sciences, where integrated reference data sets increasingly provide diverse and important societal benefits and are used in critical real-time decisions. Accessing and integrating these distributed data resources from trustworthy sources increasingly requires international networks that commit to providing data and tools in community agreed standards and formats.

Great strides have been made in open access to geospatial data and this panel will showcase the collaborations across sector and domain that have made open access geospatial data possible, including the adoption of the CoreTrustSeal trustworthy data repository certification and the FAIR Principles. The panel will share stories of science advances that would not have happened without openly available, accessible data.
