Session Description:
Data are critical to our understanding of Earth as a system. As Earth science data continues to grow in volume and variety, discoverability is becoming both more important and challenging across different science disciplines. Additionally, the time and effort required to discover, visualize, and analyze large quantities of information and Earth science data for research, monitoring, and decision making presents a great challenge to Earth science investigation.Solving the discoverability problem begins with an “inside-out” approach, as well as an “outside-in” approach. This session includes presentations that demonstrate innovative data services, tools, and approaches to assist broader user communities in discovering, visualizing, and analyzing Earth science data  including, but not limited to: data recipes, ‘inside-out’ approaches, such as metadata and information curation efforts, ‘outside-in’ approaches, which are paths that start with the physical phenomena in question, data processing and analysis tools, and structured document database development.
