Citizen Science: Engaging a Wider Community to Better Understand Our Planet I

Session Description:
Citizen science is growing rapidly in support of many areas - particularly Earth science research.  Innovative applications of crowd-sourced data enable researchers to improve satellite derived products and analyses, increasing our understanding of the Earth while simultaneously engaging the public at local, regional, and global scales to understand their own environment. Citizen science is applicable to a wide range of Earth science topics. Projects can include the collection and analysis of data by citizen scientists, the development of easily deployed instrumentation, and the development of software applications and websites to increase the community of users who can participate in Earth science research. This session seeks contributions that demonstrate the application of citizen science projects supporting Earth science research by complementing satellite observations and that discuss novel methods for the collection and use of citizen science data and research contributions.
