New Data Sources for the Monitoring of Polar Ice Sheets and Their Impact on Ice Sheet Prediction Posters

Session Description:
Predicting the future of the polar ice sheets remains a challenging
problem in Earth system science. The coupling of ice, atmosphere,
and ocean dynamics as well as the complex mechanisms influencing
the motion and deformation of ice sheets requires continued efforts
to enhance ice sheet models and their predictions. This challenge
has been recognized for decades, and extensive in-situ, airborne,
and spaceborne observations have been conducted to characterize
ice sheet processes and their physical bases.

A variety of new data sources and sensing technologies have emerged
in recent years that are or will provide new information to accelerate
model improvement and validation. 

The proposed session will provide an overview of multiple recent
datasets for improving the monitoring of polar ice sheets, and
will combine presentations on recent observations and their results,
new concepts for data acquisition, and the impact of these
measurements on models for predicting the future of Earth's polar
ice sheets.
