GC51I:
Energy–Water–Land Systems Under Climate Variability and Change Posters
Submit an Abstract to this Session
Session ID#: 60739
Session Description:
It remains unclear whether it will be possible to simultaneously satisfy the food, energy, and water demands of a growing and ever more affluent population through the end of the century. From scales local to global, food, energy, and water systems have become increasingly interconnected: climatic variability and climate change both exert direct pressures on each system individually, with ramifications for the others. This session will highlight emerging systems research at this nexus, including both analytical and modeling approaches to defining, measuring, and modeling food, energy, and water systems where at least two are deeply connected. The session will prioritize path-breaking work that: (1) sheds light on key vulnerabilities or system conflicts and when and how they arise; (2) evaluates potential solutions or leverage points in a coupled systems framework; and (3) establishes new methods for monitoring, exploring, and understanding these linked systems at large spatial and temporal scales.
