Exogeoscience and the Habitability of Super-Earths II

Session Description:
Transit detections and radial velocity measurements have shown the existence of numerous exoplanets slightly bigger than the Earth, yet of bulk density comparable to a rocky world: Super-Earths. Unlike Earth, exoplanet interiors can only be constrained by photometric and spectroscopic analyses of the planet's atmosphere and host star, and the properties of companion planets. The emerging field of “exogeoscience” is the study of how galactic, stellar system, atmospheric, and internal processes of terrestrial exoplanets affect the properties, evolution, and observable features of their surfaces and interiors. This session solicits research that informs our understanding of terrestrial exoplanet interiors and surfaces via laboratory experiments, theoretical simulations, field work in exoplanet analogue environments, and observational methods. The ultimate goal of this session is to constrain the habitability of Super-Earths and rocky planets in general.
