Icarus Worlds: Exploring Hot Exoplanets and Planetary Satellites from Their Interiors to Their Exospheres I

Session Description:
One of the most significant recent advances in planetary science has been the discovery of a large and incredibly diverse population of highly irradiated exoplanets, however, the extreme environments these planets exist in can result in dramatic physical processes. For example, highly irradiated rocky planets may experience significant volcanism, local to global surface magma oceans and highly refractory atmospheres. Meanwhile, planets with gaseous envelopes are vulnerable to extreme atmospheric escape due to their intense XUV irradiation, energetic impacts, and interactions with stellar winds and CMEs. This session brings together different communities to discuss atmospheric and geophysical modeling, star-planet interactions, observations of analogous processes on planetary satellites in our own Solar System, field studies, and experimental laboratory work in order to understand the physical processes that govern these extreme worlds and interpret current and upcoming observations.
