Science of the Young Solar Wind: Coordinated Science II

Session Description:
Understanding coronal heating and solar wind acceleration, unveiling the mechanisms of coronal mass ejections and energetic particle acceleration, and linking the magnetic field to solar variability and space weather are at the core of heliophysics exploration in the next decade with Parker Solar Probe and Solar Orbiter. While each mission will achieve its own important science objectives, taken together they are capable of doing simultaneous observations to best address these questions. This session focuses on opportunities for coordinated science studies shortly after the PSP launch with instrumentation on multiple spacecraft, assets at Earth, and sophisticated modeling of basic plasma processes that will be key to understand the dynamics of the solar atmosphere from the base of the corona into the inner heliosphere, the origins of the solar wind and its evolution from the sun. This session will provide the opportunity for presentation of initial status after the first PSP encounter.
