Tsunami Research and Early Warning

Session Description:
Tsunamis have been among the most devastating hazards in recent decades. Since the deadliest 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, tsunami research has been substantially increased and advanced. After the disastrous 2011 Japanese tsunami, people wondered how tsunami research and observations could be used for better forecasting and early warning. This session will focus on the state of tsunami research and its applications. We are inviting contributions from tsunami-related research, observations, modeling, forecasting, and early warning systems. Operational and program managers are also invited to discuss ideas and approaches to bridge researches to operations, theories to applications, modeling to forecasting, observations to understanding, technology to early warning, and damage assessment to hazards mitigation.
