Risk Management of Natural Hazards in Urban Regions

Session Description:
The vulnerability of global cities to natural hazards has been exacerbated due to fast population growth and urbanization. Many countries around the world have explored new ways to make cities more resilient to natural hazards such as Water-Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) in Australia, Sponge Cities in China, Sustainable Drainage Systems (SUDS) in the UK and Low Impact Development (LID) in North America. As a result, there is an urgent need to understand hazards, vulnerability, and risk so as to design more resilient and sustainable urban development. Therefore, this session will solicit abstracts in various aspects of risk management of natural hazards in cities including single hazards (earthquakes, landslides, debris flows, floods, etc.) and interacting multi-hazards (confounding, cascading, and triggering), and their socioeconomic impacts.
