The Collection of Natural Hazard, Exposure, and Vulnerability Data for Use in Risk Assessments and Other Novel Purposes

Session Description:
Data is at the core of any informed risk management activity, including disaster risk financing, land-use planning, or emergency management. Three classes of data are required to assess the impact of natural hazards: peril data that provide the spatial distribution of the intensity of a hazard event; exposure data that characterize the assets exposed to a natural hazard; and, vulnerability data that can be used to model the response of the asset to the hazard event. This session will bring together presentations describing efforts to develop and to use such data for risk management. We particularly seek presentations that focus on multi-hazard approaches, community mapping of exposure data, the use of machine learning to develop exposure and vulnerability data, and on novel uses of the hazard, exposure and vulnerability data.
