P54D:
Concepts for Future Planetary Science Missions II eLightning
Submit an Abstract to this Session
Session ID#: 63247
Session Description:
The first decades of the 21st century have proved an exciting time for planetary science missions. With New Horizons, objects of the Kuiper Belt are finally being explored, while other missions have revealed previously unknown surfaces of planets, moons, asteroids and comets ranging from Titan to Mercury, and from Ceres to Comet 67P. The next several decades promise to be as dramatic, with first explorations of many more asteroids, comets and moons, a return to the ice giants Uranus and Neptune, and in situ exploration of surfaces and sub-surfaces. The landscape of planetary missions has also changed dramatically, as new countries have begun to send missions to deep space destinations, while NASA has revitalized its mission portfolio with competed mission of all sizes, from CubeSats to New Frontiers missions. This session solicits innovative mission and payload concepts of all sizes, types, and from all countries and institutions.
