Social-science research suggests that science communication can be more effective by collaborating with the arts to reach a wider audience more deeply. But how? This mini-workshop will explore obstacles and opportunities of science-informed, sustainability-focused, and arts-expressed collaborations designed to educate, inspire, and move people emotionally and physically to shift from awareness of climate change and other environmental issues to action. The session will also include creative brainstorming on real issues, problems, and ways to connect research with communities so bring your curiosity, questions, and what you are working on. Speakers/facilitators include Eve Mosher, whose science-informed, arts-expressed projects have engaged thousands of community members in empowering local leadership and solutions-focused community agency; Patrick Chandler, education consultant for Washed Ashore and its large scale marine debris and public art project and University of Colorado, Boulder graduate student; and Marda Kirn, Director of EcoArts Connections, which has brought scientists, artists, and others together on co-created projects since 2006.
