Session Description:
A 3/4-day, post-meeting trip to the classic exposures along the Calvert Cliffs, MD to discuss impacts of sea level change on bluff retreat, new rock-magnetic cyclostratigraphy, sequence stratigraphy, and just have fun finding Miocene marine fossils including shark teeth and other vertebrate and invertebrate remains. This trip will explore the long-term history of sea level changes along the mid-Atlantic coast, Mio-Pliocene depositional architectures on a passive margin, the evidence for preservation of Milankovitch cyclicity in these sediments, and the impacts of more recent Holocene changes in sea level.
