What enabled life to form on Earth—and what kept it at bay on Mars and Venus? Does habitability demand factors like plate tectonics and magnetic fields? Will astronomers be able to detect hints of these processes on other worlds? A moderated panel of experts on planet formation will discuss the preconditions that make life possible—and the chances of finding it elsewhere.
