Testing for water risk in river basins in Nigeria

English Abstract:
It is a recognized fact that water risks in Africa including Nigeria increases with time due to climate change which is attributed to temperature and rainfall variability. To quantify this phrase with regard to the degree of water risk, the geographical location and its river basin must be considered in other to quantify the impact arising from extreme climate variability. Analysis using local test procedures provides detail information compare to global tests. This research will determine trend significance of climate data (temperature and rainfall) around the river basins in Nigeria and discuss their sensitivity to water risks. Method such as linear regression and Mann–Kendall tests will be use to analyse the trends in climate data and it’s relevant to water risk. Result reveals a link between climate change and water risk and the need for sustainable water resources management in Nigeria.
