Session Description:
The Rosetta Mission is the third cornerstone mission of the ESA Horizon 2000 programme. The aim of the mission is to explore comet 67-P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko with remote sensing, examine its environment in situ, and its evolution in the inner solar system. The spacecraft commenced far observation phases in March 2014, rendezvous with its target August, 2014, and in November deployed a lander to the surface. The comet's unique and intriguing shape/surface includes a bimodal nucleus with challenging topography, cliffs, boulders, etc. December, 2014, marks the beginning of the escort phase of the mission, a phase in which the comet will be observed through perihelion, then outbound through to the end of 2015. The session welcomes papers on Rosetta's mapping, landing phases, and pre-perihelion phases, including simulation and theory papers, implications for comets and solar system origins, as well as results from ground based observations of the Rosetta target comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.
