Session Title - en français: Peut-on Différencier les Effets des Pratiques Culturales de Ceux du Climat sur les Émissions d'Oxyde Nitreux d'Origine Agricole?
Session ID#: 5985
Session Description:
Some management practices have been shown to mitigate nitrous oxide emissions (N2O) from agricultural land while maintaining the productivity. However, their impact on N2O emission reduction varies greatly across climatic regions, soil types and even according to climatic sequences for a given location. In some cases not enough measurements are available to capture the spatial heterogeneity and episodic nature of N2O fluxes to arrive at any concrete conclusion. In this session, we will discuss options for using measurements and tools, such as empirical and process-based models, for discerning the effects that management practices have on N2O emissions and how they are modulated by climate sequences for given soil properties. A discussion group at the end of the session will be formed to summarise the management options that can reliably predict changes in N2O emissions, and the most important gaps in data and analyses regarding management effects on N2O emissions.
