New Developments in the Appalachian-Caledonide Orogen: A Tribute to Past Studies and a Look to the Future I

Session Description:
Nearly 50 years ago, the Appalachian-Caledonide belt was the first pre-Mesozoic orogen to which plate tectonic principles were applied. Milestones include the first tectonic lithofacies map of an orogen (Williams 1978) and its successor nearly 30 years later (Hibbard et al. 2006). This session is intended to highlight major advances in our understanding of the orogen since the 2006 compilation, and to explore strategies for answering the many questions that still remain. We solicit contributions focused on processes that have affected the development of the orogen, and aim to bring together international workers in all relevant subdisciplines of earth science.
