Recent Developments at Sudbury and Other Canadian Impact Structures Posters

Session Description:
Impact cratering has played an important role in shaping the Earth and other planetary bodies in the Solar System, from creating world-class economic resources to the negative and positive effects on the evolution of life. One sixth of the world’s known impact structures can be found in Canada, thanks to a large extent to the well-preserved Precambrian rock record. From the ~250 km diameter Sudbury structure to the ~40 m diameter Whitecourt crater, the Canadian impact record offers an important natural laboratory for studying impact cratering processes. This session seeks to highlight recent advances at Sudbury and other Canadian impact structures. We welcome contributions relating to any aspect of the Canadian impact record, from field studies, economic resources, laboratory-based studies of samples, to numerical modeling of specific craters. Contributions that relate to distal ejecta deposits and boundary layers associated with impact craters (e.g., the Cretaceous–Paleogene boundary) are also welcome.
